Career Counseling

"If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life."

--Marc Anthony, Musician

This service usually involves our meeting three times. During the first session we will talk about what kind of work you have done and where you would like to go in your career.  You will also be given two career interest inventories to complete independently.  During our second session we will review both inventories.  During the third session we will discuss what is the next step in your career exploration.

Relationship Counseling

"When you love someone you want to take care of that person as you would take care of yourself."
--Thich Nhat Hanh

Whether it is developing a better relationship with yourself or with others, it takes patience and a willingness to do the work.  Counseling involves establishing a safe place to express what you are truly feeling and developing the vocabulary and skills to grow beyond who you currently are.

The Path of Personal Growth and Healing

"We are all sacred, worthy, luminous beings.  We are love and our love is for-giving."

--Tom (Tomas) Pinkson, Ph.D.,

 Psychologist

Life throws many surprises at us, and while we cannot predict the outcome of any situation, we can take control how we respond to the situation. Counseling sessions focus on working together to make the un-conscious conscious so that we learn to respond in new, healthier ways.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long are your sessions?

Sessions usually last between 1 1/2 to 2 hours.  I don't believe in the arbitrary 50-minute-hour.  It takes time for a clinical session to get into a rhythm.

What do you charge?

I charge $175/session.

Do you accept insurance?

No.

Over the years I have been on numerous insurance panels.  The paperwork to submit claims is cumbersome and challenging since each company has its own system.  As a result it isn't practical to accept insurance at this time given the size of my practice.

What are your hours?

I only see clients in the evenings (starting at 7pm) and sometimes on weekends.

What form of payment do you accept?

Most clients pay with a check written out to Fawnview Counseling Services, LLC. At this time I do not accept credit cards but do accept payment through PayPal.

Who do you see?

I see individuals and couples.  My practice is a safe zone for the LGBTQ client.

How would you describe your clinical approach?

It depends what you are hoping to accomplish and why you are needing a Professional Counselor. We will work together to determine what would be the most helpful.

I see that your office is at your home, how does that work?

My office is separate from the house and in a separate structure.  It is fully handicapped accessible, private and safe.  It has a waiting room, bathroom, and main office where we will be meeting. It is heated and air conditioned.

Do you conduct counseling sessions remotely?

I regularly conduct ZOOM and Facetime counseling sessions.

Where did you get your doctorate?

My wife and I moved to San Francisco in 1993 when I was accepted to the doctoral program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (ciis.edu).  My wife and I moved to RVA in 1997.
